CHL players are still students. Most are in high school for their first two seasons, and many take college courses by their 19- and 20-year-old years. Every team has structured supports to keep school on track around a brutal travel schedule.
How school is structured
- Local high schools that work with the team on attendance, exams, and remote learning.
- Online course platforms used for travel days and long road swings.
- Team academic advisors who track grades, assignments, and post-secondary planning.
- Mandatory study halls in season and during playoff runs.
After high school
Players who have graduated often use their 19- and 20-year-old seasons to start university courses, often funded through the CHL scholarship package. Some begin a full undergraduate program; others target specific certifications. Either way, the team's academic staff is expected to keep schoolwork moving alongside hockey.
